Student Attendance

Being Present and On Time Matters

Consistent attendance helps students stay connected, prepared, and engaged in daily instruction. Ryder families are encouraged to review the school-day schedule, tardy expectations, and absence reporting process below.

School Day

School starts daily at 8:45 AM and ends at 3:45 PM. Classes begin promptly at 8:45 AM.

Tardy

Students are marked tardy if they arrive at 8:55 AM or later.

Attendance

Students must be present for instruction with the teacher to receive credit for attendance.

Reporting an Absence

How Families Report Absences

Only a parent or guardian may report a student’s absence.

To report an absence, contact Ryder’s Main Office at (773) 535-3843

from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Causes for Excused Absences

The following reasons are considered excused absences by Chicago Public Schools:

  1. Student illness

  2. Observance of a religious holiday

  3. Death in the immediate family

  4. Family emergency or personal matter

  5. Concern for student’s health and safety, including doctor appointments

  6. Home/Hospital program
